What is Indie Head Massage and how is it performed?
Indie Head Massage (IHM) is based on Indian Head Massage; a 5 000 year old practice, believed to have been introduced to India by Buddha. This treatment is commonly still practiced in barbershops and is called "Champi" or "Champissage".
This treatment focuses on the upper back, shoulders, neck, scalp and face and can be done two ways; seated or on the table. Techniques are similar between both methods.
- Seated, IHM: clients remain fully clothed, are seated on a chair and treatment is done without any oil. This treatment is beneficial to clients that wish to not have any oil on their hair/skin, or are returning to work.
- Table, IHM: clients would undress and lay face down on the table, between two sheets. This treatment uses an oil that is beneficial to the skin and hair, and is slightly longer in duration to the seated treatment.
